Thanh is from Kampot province in Cambodia, and he and his wife are durian fruit farmers. They have a three-year-old daughter. In his free time, Thanh enjoys exercising, playing chess, and fishing. He also enjoys taking walks with his wife and daughter along the river. In January 2020, Thanh was in a motorbike collision and fractured his right tibia. He had an open reduction with an external fixation device at a local hospital, which was removed several months later. Unfortunately, the surgical site has become infected, with an exposed tibial bone. Thanh has chronic pain and cannot rid himself of the infection. He is unable to walk and feels ashamed that his wife must do much of the management of their small farm that supports their family. Thanh and his family traveled three hours to Children's Surgical Centre, where surgeons recommended debridement of the infected wound and a reverse sural flap. This technique is used to reconstruct defects in the lower part of the leg. Now, Thanh needs help with the $991 cost of this treatment. The cost includes surgery, medications, hospital care, and post-op rehabilitation. Thanh's wife shared: "My husband has been unable to walk or work for more than two years, which has been hard on our family. I hope that the doctors can fix his leg so he can walk well again and help manage the farm."

Soma Votey is a four-year-old girl with an older brother who is seven and attends second grade. Her parents sell soft drinks outside their home. Soma Votey enjoys watching cartoons and jumping around on the playground. She will start pre-school next year. From five months ago, Soma Votey has been experiencing difficulty swallowing and breathing. She's frequently ill with high fever and a sore throat that makes eating and drinking painful. She was recently diagnosed with enlarged tonsils and adenoids, which, if not treated, will cause her symptoms to persist and possibly intensify over time. Our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, is requesting $265 to fund a tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy for Soma Votey, which is scheduled to take place on September 1st. Surgeons will remove her tonsils and adenoids, hopefully relieving Soma Votey of her symptoms and helping her live much more comfortably. Soma Votey's mother says, "I hope she will heal and her throat pain will stop so she can eat and breathe easily."

Thidar is a 43-year-old woman who lives with her husband and two daughters in Burma. She is a homemaker while her two daughters are students. However, the school in their village is closed due to the teachers being on strike following the country's coup earlier this year. Thidar was diagnosed with diabetes 13 years ago, and recently noticed that her toe on her left foot was becoming black. After visiting a local clinic, Thidar was diagnosed with having an ulcer and was prescribed medication as treatment. Unfortunately, the ulcer was not responding to medication and various treatments. Thidar then was advised to visit an hospital where the doctor's further noticed more of her toes were swollen and black as well. Thidar was diagnosed with gangrene, a rare infection where blood flow does not reach your extremities. Our medical partner, the Burma Children Medical Fund is requesting $694 for surgery on Thidar's foot to treat the gangrene. Currently, Thidar is in pain especially at night. She is unable to sleep well and is worried about her foot and her family's financial situation. She told us, "In the future I want to open a shop in my home,” she said. “Thank you so much to all the donors and supporters.”

Tol is a 36-year-old farmer. He is married with one son and two daughters. He traveled three hours with his mother to reach Watsi's medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre (CSC), for treatment. Tol fell down in April 2016 and fractured his right elbow. He can't hold anything with his right arm and is in pain. He has received Khmer tradition medicine (KTM) treatment, but this has been ineffective. Surgeons at CSC will perform an open reduction internal fixation (ORIF) procedure to treat the elbow fracture. The surgery will consist of realigning the broken bones to ensure that the arm heals properly. After surgery, Tol will have good function of his right arm again. The treatment will cost $405, and covers the cost of checkups and casts along with the surgery. When he's not working on the farm, Tol enjoys watching TV and listening to music. Once he heals from the ORIF procedure, Tol will be able to go back to work again.
