Allison is an active 13-month-old girl from Guatemala. She is the first child in her family, and loves to eat eggs. Allison's father supports the family working as a laborer in metal structures, and her mother takes care of the household. Allison was recently diagnosed with malnutrition, a condition which results from consuming too little protein, calories, and nutrients. Beginning on June 26, Allison will undergo growth monitoring and receive nutritional supplements at Clinic Tecpán, our medical partner's care center. Our medical partner, Wuqu’ Kawoq, is asking for $837 to cover the cost of her treatment. Funds will also go towards an educational program that will teach Allison's parents how to use limited resources to create a nutrient-rich diet for their daughter. Meet Miles, a four-year-old boy living in the Philippines with his parents and four siblings. Miles “attends preschool and is always excited to study,” shares our medical partner, International Care Ministries. “He does his assignments on his own and is good at memorization. He is an active child at school and at home.” Miles has an inguinal hernia, which has caused painful swelling in his groin. The pain has limited his ability to play with his friends and his parents are worried about their child’s future. Miles’ family cannot afford the $465 operation to have the hernia repair, despite how hard his father works as a waiter in a nearby restaurant. But if the hernia is not treated, it could become "strangulated" -- a life-threatening complication. That’s where we come in. By funding Miles' surgery, we can pay for his hernia repair and enable him to grow up healthy. “Thank God for the help of donors,” says Miles’ loving mother. “I thought my son will grow up having a physical problem.” Let's do this!

Meet Richard, whose doctors describe him as “a polite, happy and friendly three-year-old boy” from Tanzania. Richard lives with his father who works as schoolteacher, his mother who is a cashier at a local store, and his four siblings. An accident left Richard with elbow contracture release which is significant stiffness in an elbow that significantly decreases mobility. $550 will allow Richard to get the necessary treatment he needs so that he can stretch his arm straight, perform normal activities, and return to school. “We tried to take good care of our boy,” share his parents. “We made sure to take him for follow-up appointments but his arm still developed contracture. We hope that the surgery will straighten his elbow so that he can perform various activities will and be able to start school next year.”

Ma Linn is a 36-year-old mother from Burma. She started to notice pain in her abdomen after she delivered her youngest child three years ago. Her doctor told her she had a small mass growing in her uterus that needed to be removed as soon as possible, but Ma Linn didn’t have enough money to pay for the surgery. The mass continued to grow and she experienced pain more and more frequently. Now, she has been diagnosed with uterine fibroids and cysts in both of her ovaries. Ma Linn used to work with her husband as an agricultural day laborer. Ma Linn and her husband support their six children (3 boys and 3 girls) and her mother. Three of her children attend school, which adds to their expenses. Right now, her husband is the only one looking after their children and earning an income because Ma Linn is too weak and in too much pain to help. Ma Linn hopes to get treatment soon so that she can return to her home in Burma. She cannot wait to be healthy enough to take care of her family and their crops and not worry about the pain she experiences on a daily basis. Ma Linn needs surgery to remove the uterine fibroids and cysts, preventing further growth and easing her pain. With our help, she can focus on what matters in her life.
