Daudi is an elderly man from Kenya. He relocated to Kenya from Tanzania in 1982 and settled on the southern shores of Lake Victoria, where he made friends and worked as a shepherd. In January 2017, Daudi developed a cataract in right eye, causing him blurry vision. A cataract occurs when the lens of the eye becomes opaque, blurring vision. He is not able to see clearly, and this is affecting his work performance. Fortunately, Daudi is scheduled to undergo cataract surgery at our medical partner's care center. Surgeons will remove and replace the blurred lens. After recovery, he will be able to see clearly. Now, he needs help to fund this $220 procedure. Daudi says, “I wish to be treated and regain my sight. I cannot do anything on my own. Kindly assist me."

Abdillah is a child from Tanzania. He is the last born in a family of four children. He is a playful child who loves spending time with his friends. Abdillah's mother is a stay-at-home mother, while his father sells fruits in the market. For three years, Abdillah has been experiencing breathing problems and sleep apnea. This leads to frequent illness, and it will likely affect his school attendance when he starts school. Abdillah was recently diagnosed with enlarged tonsils, which, if not treated, will cause his symptoms to persist and possibly intensify over time. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $633 to fund a tonsillectomy for Abdillah, which is scheduled to take place on February 8. Surgeons will remove his tonsils, hopefully relieving Abdillah of his symptoms and helping him live more comfortably. Abdillah’s mother says, “Thank you for helping us get this treatment. I am very grateful for all the help and support given to us.”

Alhaji is a toddler from Tanzania. He is very active and playful. He has not started school yet. Alhaji lives with his mother and one of his brothers in his grandmother’s house. Alhaji’s mother is a small businesswoman who sells onions. Alhaji was diagnosed with bilateral congenital genu varus. His legs are bent. This condition is typically caused by an excessive accumulation of fluoride in the bones, which often stems from contaminated drinking water. As a result, he cannot walk well and experiences pain when he walks long distances. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is requesting $940 to fund corrective surgery for Alhaji. The procedure is scheduled to take place on February 9. Treatment will hopefully restore Alhaji's mobility, allow him to participate in a variety of activities, and greatly decrease his risk of future complications. Alhaji’s mother says, “I am happy that Alhaji will receive treatment and I will be very happy to see him attend school and become a doctor one day."

Joseph is a two-month-old baby from Kenya. His mother is a high school student. She has no source of income and lives with a relative. Joseph has been diagnosed with hydrocephalus, a condition in which excess cerebrospinal fluid accumulates in the brain and increases intracranial pressure. As a result of his condition, Joseph has been experiencing an increased head circumference. Without treatment, Joseph will experience severe physical and developmental delays. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $685 to cover the cost of surgery for Joseph that will treat his hydrocephalus. The procedure is scheduled to take place on January 26 and will drain the excess fluid from Joseph's brain. This will reduce intracranial pressure and greatly improve his quality of life. With proper treatment, Joseph will hopefully develop into a strong, healthy young boy. "I would like to go back to school in 2020 when Joseph is a bit older and healthy," shares Joseph’s mother.
