Chausiku is an amiable and polite 14-year-old girl who lives with her grandmother in Tanzania. When she grows up, Chausiku wants to become a nurse. Her grandmother sells vegetables at a local market, but with a small income she is dependent on her son for additional support. Chausiku has a bone infection in her right thigh bone and her grandmother can't afford her medical care. If the injury is left untreated, she is at risk of developing a fracture in her bone. The infection makes it difficult for Chausiku to walk, and she no longer attends school as a result. Chausiku needs to undergo surgery to remove the infected bone from her leg. For $700, she will get the treatment she needs to heal her leg and continue her education.

Daniel is a 15-year-old boy from Haiti with throat cancer. Before the tumor emerged on his neck, Daniel loved going to school and playing soccer and marbles with his friends. When his tumor got large enough, Daniel dropped out of school because he was embarrassed. Now, he is too weak to attend school. He is losing weight because he can't eat normally with the painful tumor in his neck. He also coughs constantly and has trouble hearing. "Daniel needs help to get over this illness," his mother says. "I want him to go back to school to learn to read because I didn't have the chance to do that." With our support, Daniel and his mother will leave his six older sisters behind and, with the help of Project Medishare, travel to the Dominican Republic to seek treatment. The cost of treatment includes their passports and visas, transportation, expenses of radiation therapy, and food and a place to stay for the duration of Daniel's treatment.

One-year-old Veronica is the youngest in a family of four children. While most children Veronica’s age are able to stand, Veronica has yet to do so due to severe rotation of both of her feet at the ankle joint (more commonly known as “club feet”). Doctors are concerned that if Veronica continues to experience developmental delays in standing, she will have difficulty walking for the rest of her life. Due to unfavorable harvest conditions on the family farm, Veronica’s parents have not been able to afford the timely medical attention she needs. A $500 series of procedures can correct Veronica’s feet so that she can begin to walk without pain. With our support, Veronica can develop along standard early childhood timelines and walk just like her older siblings!
