This condition is a shortening and hardening of the skin, muscles and tendons, and as a result, she is unable to use her right hand. In order to restore full function to her hand, including the ability to write without hindrance, she will require surgery and a skin graft. Her uncle, who is a waiter at a local restaurant, has three children of his own and cannot afford to pay for the operation Matinda needs. Zin Mar is a lighthearted woman with a great sense of humor who lives with her family in Thailand.
