Francesca is a 57-year-old woman from Kenya. She is the mother of six children. She and her husband are both subsistence farmers. Her four eldest children are married, but not employed. Her youngest two children are in school, and all of their family members help pay for their school fees.
In May 2017, Francesca noticed a lump on her left breast. She went to the local hospital a few weeks later, and was then referred to a larger facility. At our medical partner's care center, Francesca underwent an ultrasound and biopsy tests, and she was diagnosed with breast cancer. Doctors recommended that Francesca undergo surgery. If not treated, the cancer may spread and lead to premature death.
On August 28, Francesca will undergo a mastectomy procedure. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $816 to fund Francesca's procedure. This will cover the full cost of treatment, including supplies, medication, labs, a six-night hospital stay, and physician time.
