Meet Sainder! Sainder is a one-year-old boy from Haiti. He lives with his parents and two siblings out in the countryside. Sainder’s parents work in the fields to grow food for their family and are just able to provide for their children’s basic needs. Sainder was born with a cleft lip, which needs treatment so he can eat normally. The first hospital Sainder’s parents took him to were unable to help, but luckily our medical partner, Project Medishare can. Doctors from Project Medishare write, “Sainder is unable to eat and drink well, and he feels uncomfortable due to his lip deformation. Treatment will bring joy to his family’s life because he will be able to eat and drink easily.” “I am very excited to see how my son will look after surgery!” exclaims Sainder’s mother. For $960, Sainder will receive surgery for his cleft lip, which will improve his appearance, as well as allow him to eat, drink, and breathe without difficulty. Meet Noel, a happy 16-year-old boy from Tanzania! Noel is the youngest in a family of nine children and dreams of one day becoming a tailor, telling our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, “I have been close to my uncle who is a tailor and as time went by I became very fond of tailoring. I hope that one day I can become a famous tailor.” Our partner adds that, “While at home, Noel helps her mother with everyday chores and he sometimes herd his father’s cattle although he won’t go far. Noel’s mother is a homemaker and his father keeps livestock and does a little bit of farming.” Noel is currently experiencing bilateral genu valgus, or knocked knees, causing his knees to touch when his legs are straight. According to Noel’s doctors, “Noel has had trouble walking for a long time now. He cannot walk or run without his knees knocking each other. He feels pain after walking for a long time and he can’t join in some running games." The team adds that “What [Noel's father] earns is not enough to cover their basic needs as well as pay for Noel’s surgery.” For $940, we can ensure Noel receives the medical care he needs in order to correct his gait.
