Sieb is an 85-year-old grandmother from Cambodia with three sons, four daughters, and thirty grandchildren. She enjoys visiting the pagoda and listening to the monks pray on the radio. Two years ago, Sieb developed a cataract in each eye. This condition has left her with blurred vision and tearing. She can't see anything clearly, do work well, or go anywhere outside on her own. With $225 in funds, a surgeon will make small incisions on both eye sclera, remove the cataracts, and implant a foldable lens to clear up her vision. After a SICS and IOL implant in each eye, Sieb will be able to return outside safely and independently. Her granddaughter shares with CSC, "I hope my grandmother can see everything clearer after surgery, so she can go anywhere outside and not worry about losing her vision again."

“Growing up Zar Zar was often sick and experienced flu like symptoms,” explain our partners at Burma Border Projects. “She feels weak and is tired after doing small tasks or walking short distances. Small tasks also impact her ability to breathe properly. She said her symptoms are manageable but she worries what will happen to her health in the future it left untreated.” Zar Zar is a 27-year-old woman from Burma, where she lives with her parents. Together, they plant peanuts and beans to support themselves. Their farming income covers food and their basic bills, but does not allow them to save nor address Zar Zar’s ongoing health issues. Our partners at Burma Border Projects diagnosed Zar Zar with mitral valve stenosis, a heart condition that arises when a major valve in the heart is narrower than usual. As a result, blood flow can be uneven within the heart, which can result in heart palpitations, exhaustion or even heart failure. For $1,500, we can fund complex cardiac surgery to correct Zar Zar’s heart valve, so she can regain strength and endurance. With her increased strength, Zar Zar will be able to contribute more around the house and to her family’s farm, increasing their earnings. She will also be able to have children one day, fulfilling her dream of providing for her own children and helping them go to school!

Gonzalo is a one-year-old baby from Guatemala who hasn't grown in six months. This is indicative of a major development failure. Gonzalo is from a very remote part of Guatemala. His family is very poor. It took them a long time to even save up the bus fare to seek medical attention for their son. Now that he has made it to our medical partner in Guatemala, his doctors are worried that he may have an endocrine problem. If he does, it could greatly increase his risk of developmental and cognitive delays. Fortunately, for just $525, we can give Gonzalo the intensive nutritional therapy he needs to resume his growth and development. Meet Eyuccabeth, a 17-year-old girl living in Kenya. Eyuccabeth is the fourth child in her family. Her father died 10 years ago and her mother works temporary jobs in order to take care of the family. "I want to work hard and be able to take care of my mother just like she has taken care of us," says Eyuccabeth. Our medical partner describes Eyuccabeth as a happy, kind-hearted and joyous girl. Unfortunately, she has chronic osteomyelitis, a bone infection, in her right leg. This condition causes her leg to swell and if she doesn't receive surgery, her leg may need to be amputated. For $1,200, we can help Eyuccabeth receive a sequestrectomy, a separation of dead bone from healthy bone, which will allow her to walk normally again. With this surgery, Eyuccabeth will be able to live an active life and help support her family like she wants to.

Meet Pauline, a 42-year-old Kenyan woman who is battling hypertension, increased pulse rate and weight loss as a result of a toxic goiter. If left untreated, Pauline’s doctors say her symptoms will worsen to the point that she will not be able to eat, leading to malnutrition and eventually, a premature death. Pauline at one time was healthy enough to work, and supported her mother and sister. When her conditioned worsened, she was forced to stop working. She moved in with her mother who now supports Pauline and her sister by selling vegetables. Pauline shares, “My age does not allow me to still live with my mother when I should be the one supporting her. It pains me to see her struggle this way. I long to get back to work and support my mother and sister like I used to." We are raising $750 so that Pauline may receive the thyroid surgery she needs to recover.
