Maria is a 52-year-old woman from Uganda. She is married and has six children. Maria grows beans and millet. The little money she gets after harvesting her yields is used to buy essentials for the family. For three years, Maria has had an epigastric hernia, which causes upper middle abdomen swelling associated with pain. The doctor examined her and a herniorrhaphy was recommended. Maria will undergo surgery on November 7th and our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare (AMH), is requesting $201 to fund Maria's surgery. Once completed, this procedure will hopefully allow her to live more comfortably. Maria says, “I thank God for his protection because I have been sick for a long time without getting money for seeking treatment. however, I visited a government health facility two times, and they advised me to go for an operation, but I did not get money to access the services. I am glad AMH and the donors can help. I will keep practicing farming after recovery to take good care of my family.’’

Visal is a 16-month-old boy from Cambodia. He lives with his parents and brother in Kep province. His father works as a construction worker, while his mother works as a grocery seller and cares for the children at home. At home, Visal enjoys playing with his older brother and taking naps. In September 2023, Visal suffered a burn injury from hot water on his right finger. Now, burn scar contractures have developed, tightening the 2nd and 3rd fingers of his right hand. It is difficult for him to grab objects, and limits the function of his hand. When Visal's family learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre (CSC), they traveled for two and a half hours seeking treatment. On April 25th, surgeons at CSC will perform a burn contracture release surgery to help him use his hand easily again. Visal's family is able to contribute $100 but needs help to raise $395 more to fund this procedure. Visal's father shared, "I hope my son will be able to use his hand easily again and have no problems in the future."

Biyana is a toddler from Ethiopia who loves to play with his mom and other children. He loves to play with balls and toy cars. His mom is a daily laborer who washes clothes for a living. She is a single mom who works hard to support her mother and Biyana. Biyana was born with hypospadias, a condition that causes urinary dysfunction. His mother knew about his condition at birth and was informed that surgery could be done when the child was seven years old. However, she later heard that kids as young as Biyana were going to Addis Ababa, the capital city, for treatment. After securing support for transportation, Biyana was brought to our medical partner's care center, BethanyKids Myungsung Christian Medical Centre. There, doctors confirmed Biyana's condition and scheduled him for surgery. Fortunately, Biyana is scheduled to undergo corrective surgery on June 18th. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $1,293 to cover the total cost of his procedure and care. The surgery will relieve Biyana of discomfort and pain, and reduce the risk of future health complications. Biyana's mother said, “After the surgery, we hope he will be healthy and grow up like other children.”
