“Yin's only wish is to live without discomfort and with dignity. As a Buddhist, she is disappointed she is not able to go to temple to pray as she wishes because of the condition,” explains Burma Border Projects (BBP), our medical partner in Burma. Yin is a 53-year-old woman suffering from uterus prolapse. BBP explains more about Yin’s case, “Yin has been suffering from her condition for a total of nineteen years. It began as abdominal and back pain but then developed to stage 3 uterus prolapse - the uterus protrudes outside of the body. When this happens she has to forcibly push her uterus back inside. Because of the problem, simple tasks such as walking, running, cooking and cleaning have now brought her great discomfort. Her condition has also negatively affected her self-confidence.” Until it became very uncomfortable, Yin did not seek care for her condition because of her family’s financial concerns. BBP explains, “Yin is a wife and mother of three. Due to her condition she hasn't been able to work. Her husband is a subsidence rice farmer. The rice they produce is enough for the family’s consumption but it doesn't provide them an income.” For $1,500, we can fund a gynecological surgery that BBP expects will allow Yin to return both to work in the field and to her religious duties, a return that BBP hopes will, “give Yin a greater sense of mobility and self-confidence.”

Say hello to Hla Yee, a 54-year-old mother of four living in the remote jungle of Burma. “Hla Yee started suffering from an ovary mass about three years ago,” explains our medical partner Burma Border Projects. Her symptoms have included fatigue and tightness in her abdomen, making her unable to sleep and causing a loss of appetite. Due to financial hardship, Hla Yee never had the opportunity to attend school and has been a hard working farmer all her life. She and her husband own a farm where they plant rice, beans, and peanuts. "I really want to go back to work. It isn't fair that my husband and daughter have to do all of the work. I want to help, too," shares Hla Yee. Hla Yee's family has been unable to raise the funds for medical treatment and therefore she has never been to a medical clinic of any kind in her lifetime. Together, we can raise $865 and get Hla Yee the surgery she needs. "Once Hla Yee has received surgery to remove her ovary mass, she will no longer suffer from any physical discomfort and she will be able to return to work. Meet Aung, an eight-year-old boy from Burma! Our medical partner, Burma Border Projects (BBP), tells us, "Aung really enjoys school and likes studying; he says that he would like to become an eye doctor when he grows up.” Aung has been fighting cancer and previously had his eye removed to prevent tumor spread. The tumor has now spread to his eye socket and needs to be removed. "The tumor currently causes Aung physical and mental discomfort," BBP explains. "After his eye was removed it was hoped that his condition would improve, however, the spread of the tumor has been very difficult for him and his mother. It is physically painful and also causes him a headaches and becomes tired easily." For $1,500, Aung will receive the necessary surgery to remove the tumor. Aung’s mother says, “I really want my son to continue with his education – I never had the opportunity and have had to work a physically difficult job my whole life. I am completely determined to get him treatment no matter how many surgeries he needs.” Let’s help Aung get healthy again!

Tu Tu is an 18-year-old girl living with her parents and brother in rural Burma. Our medical partner tells us, "Tutu has experienced cardiac symptoms since she was 9-years-old. These symptoms include heart palpitations, fatigue, pain in her chest and seizures.” Tu Tu has a condition known as tetralogy of fallot, a congenital heart defect. Her condition has kept her from doing many of the things she wants to do. Our partners tell us that Tu Tu’s heart condition has “made it difficult for her to attend school and study. She also finds it difficult to help her mother with her house chores and cannot contribute to the family farm… she wishes to be like the other teenagers in her village who can do things for themselves and help their families.” Her parents work on their rice farm for a living, but they simply do not make enough to cover the costs of Tu Tu’s treatment. For $1500, Tu Tu will get total correction surgical repair for her tetralogy of fallot. This treatment will greatly decrease the chest pain and fatigue Tu Tu now feels regularly. Due to her condition, Tu Tu had to drop out of school a few years ago. Meet Kham, an eight-year-old boy from Thailand who loves to paint and enjoys learning English. Currently, Kham has very blurry vision out of his right eye and has been diagnosed with a detached retina, meaning that the retina has separated from the back of the eye. Burma Border Projects, our medical partner, writes that “without surgery, blindness may result. He has already lost vision in his left eye due to retinal detachment so it's imperative for his future wellbeing he have the surgery.” "Kham grew up in Burma but moved to Thailand a year and a half ago when his family made the decision to leave in search of better work opportunities. His parents are day laborers and earn a very low income of $20 a day between them. They have spent all their savings and have gone into debt trying to raise money for his medical treatment for his left eye in vain.” Kham has stopped schooling in order to get treatment, and though his parents are worried, “they are very hopeful that the surgery to fix his right eye will be a success and will secure him a brighter future." "With treatment, Kham's vision in his right eye will be fully or partially restored. Kham is looking forward to seeing clearly out of his right eye and returning to school. He understands that he has already missed out on a lot of school and will be behind. However, he is very determined to catch up with the class!" For $1500, Kham can get retinal reattachment surgery that will help him see clearly again.

Meet Anita! This sweet eight-year-old girl lives in Nepal in a family of seven. Anita loves to sing and dance, and read in school. Anita has recently developed a cyst on her lip, causing her pain and making it difficult for her to eat. Singing, dancing, and studying for upcoming exams are now near impossible for Anita to do. Fortunately, we can get Anita feeling healthy again. For $525, Anita will have the cyst removed and she will no longer be at risk for infection, allowing her to focus on exams and happily return to an active life!

John is a 14-year-old high school student who likes to play and watch television. He also lives with a condition called undescended testes. Recently, this condition has caused him so much pain that he winces in pain throughout the day and he is unable to perform normal activities. In the longer term, having undescended testes can increase John’s risk for infertility and testicular cancer. His parents earn a small income from farming which hasn’t allowed them to afford any treatment. They are “excited about John getting a chance to live the life he wants to live without the pain and stress caused by his condition,” but they need our help! One year ago, Phearin broke his leg in a motorbike accident and received emergency treatment. However, his treatment was not successful - the bone was misaligned and the tissue has become infected. However, he can no longer walk independently and experiences pain daily. Soeung is a 39-year-old farmer living in Cambodia with her two daughters. When Soeung was four years old, she started experiencing severe hip pain.
