Muganzi is a seven-year-old boy from Uganda. He is the seventh of his parents' children. He is not in school yet due to of lack of money. His parents have a house on a small plot and they don’t have a piece of land of their own for cultivation. They depend on the mercy of other people, who rent them pieces of land. They struggle a lot, through casual labour, to get money to pay for the education of their six children in school.
Three months ago Muganzi developed a swelling on his abdomen, which is painful and is increasing in size. He no longer plays with his friends because of the pain. His parents had not taken him to hospital because of a lack of enough money for both transport and treatment.
Muganzi's father brought him to Holy Family Virika Hospital, a Watsi care center, after his friend told him about the Watsi program. Muganzi suffers form para-umbilical hernia, a condition where part of his intestine is protruding through the inner umbilical (belly button) area.If not treated, the hernia could become stuck, leading to damage to the intestine or even the stomach.
$249 will cover the costs of the surgery and care Muganzi needs. After surgery, his parents hope to put Muganzi in school in 2017. Let's help raise the funds!
