Theara is a boy from Cambodia. He is an only child, and he loves to play outside with friends and watch television. He wants to be a doctor when he grows up. For the past year, he has had a recurrent infection that makes it difficult to breathe and sleep. Surgery can get rid of the infection and improve his quality of life. Surgery is scheduled for May 14 and will cost $221. He will be able to sleep again and focus better at school. His mother says, "I hope that after surgery, my son will no longer have an infection and I won't have to worry about his condition anymore."

Srey is a mother of four from Cambodia. She likes to cook, do housework, and play with her kids in her free time. Four years ago, Srey had an ear infection. This infection caused the tympanic membrane, or the ear drum, in her left ear to perforate. For this reason, Srey experiences pain, tinnitus, hearing loss, ear discharge. She has a difficult time communicating properly with others. Srey traveled to our medical partner's care center to receive treatment. On May 6, she will undergo a myringoplasty procedure in her left ear. During this procedure, surgeons will close the perforation. Our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, is requesting $423 to fund this procedure. This covers medications, supplies, and inpatient care. She says, "I hope that after my surgery, my ear will heal and I will be able to hear clearly again."

Thearo is a young man from Cambodia. Ten years ago, Thearo's spine started to curve, which is progressing with age, making it difficult to sit in school for long periods, and causing a lot of discomfort. Surgery can help correct the position of his spine, and prevent further worsening of the condition. Fortunately, surgery is scheduled for March 14. Our medical partner needs help raising $1,500 to fund this procedure. Thearo hopes to go back to school and become a teacher one day. He says, "I hope that after surgery, I will no longer have any pain and will be able to go back to school without any discomfort."

Sophal is a rice farmer from Cambodia. She has three brothers and four sisters. She likes to plant vegetables in her small garden at home. When she was fifteen, Sophal had an ear infection. This infection caused the tympanic membrane, or the ear drum, in her right ear to perforate. For this reason, Sophal experiences ear discharge and pain. She cannot communicate easily with others. Sophal traveled to our medical partner's care center to receive treatment. On January 7, she will undergo a myringoplasty procedure in her right ear. During this procedure, surgeons will close the perforation. Our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, is requesting $423 to fund this procedure. This covers medications, supplies, and inpatient care. She says, "I hope my ear pain goes away and I can return home soon after surgery."

Nhanh is a rice farmer from Cambodia. She has five daughters, four sons, and sixteen grandchildren. She enjoys listening to monks pray on the radio. Two years ago, Nhanh developed a cataract in her right eye, causing her blurry vision, and irritation. She has difficulty seeing things clearly, recognizing faces, and going anywhere outside. When Nhanh learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, she traveled for six and a half hours seeking treatment. On April 5, doctors will perform a small incision cataract surgery and an intraocular lens implant in her right eye. After recovery, she will be able to see clearly. Now, she needs help to fund this $211 procedure. She says, "I hope I can see better so that I can take care of my grandchildren and live an independent life."

Jospina is a farmer from Kenya. She is 66 years old and resides in a small village in a very hilly region of the Rift Valley. About a week ago, Jospina was fetching wood to use while cooking. She tripped on a rock and sustained a fracture in her left hand. Although she has received first aid care, Jospina is currently experiencing pain and cannot concentrate on her responsibilities. Fortunately, surgeons at our medical partner can help. On April 19, Jospina will undergo a fracture repair procedure, called an open reduction and internal fixation. We hope this treatment will relieve Jospina of pain so she can return home to take care of her family. Now, our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $771 to fund this procedure. “I am in need of treatment because this pain is so severe," says Jospina.

Kesande is a small-scale farmer from Uganda. She is married and a mother of six children. 14 years ago, Kesande began to experience troubling symptoms, including pain, difficulty breathing, and disfigurement. She was diagnosed with a multinodular goiter. She needs surgery to prevent her symptoms from getting worse. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is helping Kesande receive treatment. She is scheduled to undergo a thyroidectomy on April 3 at our medical partner's care center. Surgeons will remove all or part of her thyroid gland. This procedure will cost $240, and she and her family need help raising money. Kesande says, “I hope to get better after surgery and continue with cultivation.”

Nhor is a farmer from Cambodia. He has two daughters, five sons, and eight grandchildren. He has been married for thirty three years. He enjoys tending to his mango trees. While Nhor was clearing his farmland in February, a mine exploded on him, causing degloving injuries of both hands, chest, and both legs. His leg wound is not healing and he is in constant pain. He needs a skin graft procedure to treat his leg wounds. When Nhor learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, he traveled for eight hours seeking treatment. On March 26, surgeons at CSC will perform a skin graft procedure to to help him walk easily again and heal the wound. Now, Nhor needs help to fund this $440 procedure. He says, "I am looking forward to going home and spending time with my family."

Vireak is a father of three from Cambodia. He used to be a soldier. He likes watching boxing and spending time with his family. For the last two years, he has been experiencing hip pain and difficulty walking. He's stopped working, and it's painful to walk. Fortunately, Vireak learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre. At CSC, surgeons can perform a total hip replacement to relieve Vireak of his pain and allow him to walk easily. Treatment is scheduled for January 8, and Vireak needs help raising $1,025 to pay for this procedure. He says, "I hope I can get better on my hip and go back to work."

Busingye is a retired teacher from Uganda. She is married with nine children. Her husband is a laboratory assistant. Three years ago, Busingye began to experience troubling symptoms, including difficulty swallowing. She was diagnosed with a multi-nodular goiter. She needs surgery to prevent her symptoms from getting worse. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is helping Busingye receive treatment. She is scheduled to undergo a thyroidectomy on February 1 at our medical partner's care center. Surgeons will remove all or part of her thyroid gland. This procedure will cost $240, and she and her family need help raising money. Busingye says, “I will continue with farming after the surgery since I am retired as I will be relieved of this condition.”

Luy is a retired rice farmer from Cambodia. She has four sons and six grandchildren. She likes watching the Cambodian concert channel. Two years ago, Luy developed a cataract in her right eye, causing her blurry vision, itchiness, and tearing. She has difficulty seeing things clearly, recognizing faces, and going anywhere outside. When Luy learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, she traveled for over an hour seeking treatment. On January 16, doctors will perform a phacoemulsification cataract surgery and an intraocular lens implant in her right eye. After recovery, she will be able to see clearly. Now, she needs help to fund this $211 procedure. She says, "I hope I can see again because my children are worried about me."

Sha is an 11-year-old boy from Thailand. He lives with his two sisters and his father in Mae Sot, Tak Province. Sha and one of his sisters are students, while the other sister works in a factory. His father works as a construction worker. Unfortunately, their mother recently passed away. Sha likes fishing and playing football with his friends. Since April 2017, Sha has had an inguinal hernia. This hernia causes him pain, and he sometimes misses his classes. Fortunately, on February 5, he will undergo hernia repair surgery at Mae Sot General Hospital, our medical partner's care center. Our medical partner, Burma Children Medical Fund, is requesting $1,500 to fund Sha's hernia repair surgery. The procedure is scheduled to take place on February 5 and, once completed, will hopefully allow him to live more comfortably. Sha said, “I like to go fishing with my friends and I can even catch a fish with my hands!”
