Say hello to Dorothy, a 42-year-old woman from Kenya! She normally cleans clothes for a living, moving from house to house around her neighborhood, but she has been too sick to work for the past year. Dorothy has a large ovarian cyst which causes heavy bleeding, making her feel very weak. Dorothy’s abdomen is very swollen from the cyst. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, says, “If not treated, Dorothy could die from the severe anemia, brought about by the prolonged heavy bleeding. Dorothy is also at risk of cancer and spread.” Dorothy’s doctor has recommended a hysterectomy, which would save her life by stopping her pain and bleeding. The procedure costs $790, which she has been unable to raise money for. “I really hope to get treatment so that I can be able to work again and take care of myself, rather than depend on others,'' Dorothy says.

Meet Manita, a courageous 46-year-old mother of two from Haiti, where she and her husband are teachers. Some time ago Manita noticed a lump in her breast, which was initially diagnosed as a cyst. She was given medication and sent home. The lump grew very big, very quickly. After a sonography and biospy, Manita was diagnosed with breast cancer. Manita shares, “I wasn't thinking it would be something so bad. I was not thinking it could be a cancer; I don't know what to do.” Our partners at Project Medishare in Haiti are optimistic that surgery and chemotherapy will help Manita to become well again: “The surgery will remove the infected tissues of the breast and treat it, and then she will require chemotherapy sessions to complete the treatment; then she will be able to save her life.” Unfortunately, since becoming ill, Manita has had to discontinue working at the primary school where she was employed because the pain in her breast and armpit prevents her from lifting her hand to write on the board for her students. A physician at Project Medishare notes, “Manita loves her children and her family; she said she would love to finish with the treatment, go back to work and raise some money to make a small shop to sell things as food and drinks.” For $1,500, we can fund the treatment Manita needs to beat breast cancer.

Sarun is a 39-year-old man living in Cambodia with his son. “Sarun was riding his ox cart on his family’s rice farm one and a half years ago, when the ox got spooked and the cart tumbled over," our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre (CSC), tells us. "Sarun’s family cannot afford medical treatment, so he stayed at home hoping to get better. Unfortunately, Sarun has not been able to walk or work since the accident, so he has finally come to CSC for help.” Sarun fractured his third lumbar vertebra in his lower back. "Spinal decompression surgery is the only hope for him to regain his ability to walk and have an easier time taking care of his son,” the CSC team says. With $375 we can ensure that Sarun has the money to get this surgery and improve his quality of life.

Dela Devi is a cattle farmer who broke her left arm at home after she knocked over a wood block, lost her balance and hit the stone wall with her shoulder. Her injury is very painful and keeps her from sleeping at night. Dela Devi lives with her son, daughter-in-law and four grandchildren. She takes care of the family’s cattle while her son works as a bricklayer. In her spare time, she loves to play with her youngest grandchild. Because of her injury, Dela Devi cannot move her arm or do basic tasks like dressing herself. She needs treatment and a cast for her injury, which will cost $205. With your help, she will once again be able to sleep at night and help her family members with chores.

Say hello to Bajir, a 49-year-old cattle farmer from Nepal! Bajir lives with his wife and their seven children. The income he earns from their small piece of land isn’t enough to support the family, so he travels with his eldest son to larger cities in India for work. When he’s home, he loves playing with his youngest son, who is seven. “Bajir pricked his foot with a thorn while he was bringing his cows home one evening. The puncture wound has since become infected, causing immense pain throughout his foot when he walks or does other daily activities,” explains our medical partner, Possible. “If the infection goes untreated, it could threaten his leg, and possibly spread to other organs in his body.” For $215, Bajir will receive treatment to drain, dress and bandage his wound properly, and antibiotics to fight off infection. His family can barely make ends meet and does not have enough money to cover the cost of this treatment. Let’s pay for the care he needs to can keep supporting his family and playing with his sons!
