Say hello to Dorothy, a 42-year-old woman from Kenya! She normally cleans clothes for a living, moving from house to house around her neighborhood, but she has been too sick to work for the past year. Dorothy has a large ovarian cyst which causes heavy bleeding, making her feel very weak.
Dorothy’s abdomen is very swollen from the cyst. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, says, “If not treated, Dorothy could die from the severe anemia, brought about by the prolonged heavy bleeding. Dorothy is also at risk of cancer and spread.”
Dorothy’s doctor has recommended a hysterectomy, which would save her life by stopping her pain and bleeding. The procedure costs $790, which she has been unable to raise money for.
“I really hope to get treatment so that I can be able to work again and take care of myself, rather than depend on others,'' Dorothy says.
