Barekye is a small scale farmer from Uganda. He is married and a father of ten children, three are married, five in school and two dropped out of school due to his inability to pay for their school fees. Both Barekye and his wife survive on small scale farming. Barekye presented with a progressive neck mass swelling that he has had for the past ten years that causes him discomfort upon swallowing. Barekye traveled to our medical partner's care center to receive treatment. On August 20, surgeons will remove the mass. Now, Barekye needs help to raise $187 to fund this procedure. Barekye says “I will be glad to see my condition relieved and continue with cultivation after surgery.”

Chan is a mother of five from Thailand. She is a homemaker while her husband works as a daily laborer. For the past three months, Chan has been experiencing pain and discomfort in her abdomen and back. She has been diagnosed with ovarian cyst. She has been advised to undergo a total abdominal hysterectomy, the surgical removal of her uterus and cervix. If left untreated, Chan's symptoms will continue to worsen and put her at risk for further health complications in the future. Fortunately, Chan is scheduled to undergo her hysterectomy on August 6. Our medical partner, Burma Children Medical Fund, is requesting $1,500 to cover the total cost of her procedure and care. Once recovered, she will no longer experience pain and discomfort. Chan says, “I am always thinking and worrying about my condition. I hope I will get better one day.”

Zacharia is a baby from Tanzania. Zacharia was born with spina bifida, a type of neural tube defect in which the spine does not properly close around the spinal cord. Without treatment, Zacharia is at risk of lower-limb paralysis, infection of the exposed nervous tissue, development of tethered cord syndrome, and possible developmental delays. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $966 to cover the cost of Zacharia's spina bifida closure surgery. The procedure is scheduled to take place on July 22. This procedure will hopefully spare Zacharia from the risks associated with his condition, instead allowing him to grow and develop along a healthy trajectory. Zacharia’s mother says, “We are living in fear of losing our son due to his condition please help save our baby we have not been able to afford his treatment cost all this time.”

Ivona is a baby from Tanzania. Early last month, Ivona’s mother noticed a small swelling on her neck. Her neck mass was increasing in size and causing her pain. Ivona traveled to our medical partner's care center to receive treatment. On July 29, surgeons will remove the mass. Now, Ivona's family needs help to raise $689 to fund this procedure. Ivona’s father says, “Please help us fund her treatment cost we have no means of coming up with this kind of money.”

Tumwesigye is a small-scale farmer from Uganda. She is married with eight children. 29 years ago, Tumwesigye began to experience troubling symptoms, including shortness of breath and painful swelling. She was diagnosed with a goiter, an abnormal enlargement of the thyroid gland. She needs surgery to prevent her symptoms from getting worse. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is helping Tumwesigye receive treatment. She is scheduled to undergo a thyroidectomy on July 29 at our medical partner's care center. Surgeons will remove all or part of her thyroid gland. This procedure will cost $240, and she and her family need help raising money. Tumwesigye says, “I hope to recover from this long standing condition and I continue with cultivation.”

Bahenyangi is a small scale farmer from Uganda. She is married with six children. She has had a painful swelling on her left knee for over 20 years. She cannot kneel down and experiences discomfort and disfigurement. Bahenyangi traveled to our medical partner's care center to receive treatment. On July 23, surgeons will remove the mass. Now, Bahenyangi needs help to raise $187 to fund this procedure. Bahenyangi says, “I will be glad after the relief of this condition that I have had for long time but I trust in you since you opted to support me to get better life style that before after surgery.”

Tibyampa is a small-scale farmer from Kenya. He is married with six children. For three years, Tibyampa has had an inguinal hernia. This hernia causes him pain and discomfort and if not treated, the hernia may cause intestinal tissue damage or death. Fortunately, on July 23, he will undergo hernia repair surgery at our medical partner's care center. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $219 to fund Tibyampa's surgery. Once completed, this procedure will hopefully allow him to live more comfortably and confidently. Tibyampa says, “I am hopeful for a better life style after surgery as I will be relieved of this hernia and I continue with farming.”

Sanyu is a small-scale farmer from Uganda. She is married with six children. Fifteen years ago, Sanyu began to experience troubling symptoms, including shortness of breath, disfigurement, and headaches. She was diagnosed with a goiter, an abnormal enlargement of the thyroid gland. She needs surgery to prevent her symptoms from getting worse. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is helping Sanyu receive treatment. She is scheduled to undergo a thyroidectomy on July 23 at our medical partner's care center. Surgeons will remove all or part of her thyroid gland. This procedure will cost $240, and she and her family need help raising money. Sanyu says, “I will continue with cultivation after the treatment. I have lived with this condition for a long time.”

Muheire is a businessman from Uganda. He has had a painful swelling on his back for over ten years. The mass keeps increasing in size and is causing him discomfort. Muheire traveled to our medical partner's care center to receive treatment. On July 16, surgeons will remove the mass. Now, Muheire needs help to raise $187 to fund this procedure. Muheire says, “I will continue with farming after surgery as I hope to be treated and get better.”

Komuzaano is a small-scale farmer from Uganda. For four years, she has had a swelling on her abdomen. This swelling is tender and as a result, she can not sleep on her side due to pain. Komuzaano traveled to our medical partner's care center to receive treatment. On July 16, surgeons will remove the mass. Now, Komuzaano needs help to raise $187 to fund this procedure. Komuzaano says, “I hope to get better after surgery so that I can also sleep comfortably with no pain and disfigurement.”

Tusingwire is a small scale farmer from Uganda. She has had a painful swelling on her back for ten years. The mass is increasing in size and she is not able to sleep on her back due to pain. Tusingwire traveled to our medical partner's care center to receive treatment. On July 16, surgeons will remove the mass. Now, Tusingwire needs help to raise $187 to fund this procedure. Tusingwire says, “I hope to be treated and get better and I continue with farming after surgery.”

Sok Ra is a 14-year-old girl from Cambodia. She has one younger brother, and likes to listen to music in her free time. Since she was born, Sok Ra developed a cataract in each eye, causing her complete blindness. She has difficulty seeing things clearly, recognizing faces, and going anywhere outside. When Sok Ra learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, she traveled for three and a half hours seeking treatment. On July 9, doctors will perform a phacoemulsification cataract surgery and an intraocular lens implant in each eye. After recovery, she will be able to see clearly. Now, she needs help to fund this $398 procedure. She says, "I hope that after my surgery, I will be able to see clearly and be able to attend school."
