Meet one-year-old Therrick! Therrick lives with his mother in Haiti. Therrick has a cleft-lip, a condition in which his mouth and lips formed abnormally while he was developing. His condition causes fever and flu-like symptoms, and also affects his ability to eat normally. Without surgery to correct his lips, Therrick will continue to have difficulty eating, flu-like symptoms, and probably face social stigma as he grows older. Therrick’s mom is hopeful that our hospital partner can fix Therrick’s cleft lip. Meeting other families who have been affected by this condition has given her strength. She works hard, but as Therrick’s sole supporter, she does not have enough income to support the cost of surgery for her son. For $960, doctors can perform a corrective surgery on Therrick. Meet Seyha, a 21-year-old man from Cambodia. He likes to listen to pop music on the radio. Seyha recently got in a car accident and fractured his tibia. He could not afford healthcare, and now the bone is infected. This causes Seyha a lot of pain and prevents him from walking. Without treatment, it's likely this injury will turn into a life-long disability. For $450, we can fund a tibia shaft fracture fixator and osteotomy. Myo Chit lives with his family in refugee camp. "They used to live in rural area," our hospital partner explains, "however his family fled to the camp to escape the Burmese soldiers recruiting laborers." Myo Chit is the oldest of six children. He was studying in 2nd grade and loved going to school. But he stopped attending last year when he contracted cellulitis - a bacterial infection - after he fractured his tibia slipping in the bathroom. Myo Chit cannot walk. When he sits for too long, his leg swells up and becomes painful. His parents cannot afford his medical expenses. His father only works as day laborer, but only gets jobs about ten days a month. If we can help him get the healthcare he needs, Myo Chit is excited to return to school and get an education. "He is looking forward to playing football with his friends. He would like to help people when he gets older as a medic or a doctor," our partner in Burma writes.

Meet Henry, a six-year-old boy from Guatemala. Born with blocked tear ducts in both eyes, he experiences constant irritation in his eyes, and his tears do not drain normally. Due to the slow drainage and chronic buildup of tear secretions, Henry gets frequent eye infections, which can lead to pus buildup in his eyes that only perpetuates the cycle. Very few Guatemalan surgeons are qualified to perform the surgery he needs, which is also quite expensive. Henry's parents, who have been searching for a solution for many years, are hopeful that the issue will be fixed before Henry starts school. Without treatment, the pain and cycle of infections will continue and potentially create further complications for this potential-filled kid. We're raising $1,500 for a bilateral tear duct surgery. The surgery will result in the resolution of Henry's pain, normal tear drainage, improved appearance, and greater comfort. Let's help Henry get healthy enough for school!

Meet Emiliana, a 67-year-old woman from Guatemala who is highly motivated in keeping her diabetes and high blood pressure under control. She has a very supportive family who accompanies her to all of her medical visits but, due to recent changes to their financial situation, she can no longer afford her medications. While symptoms of chronic diseases like diabetes and hypertension are often insidious, they cause significant health burden and can become life-threatening if left unmanaged. Emiliana needs our help to bring her symptoms of dizziness, frequent urination, weight loss, and other diabetes and blood pressure related problems under control. For $300, Emiliana will receive intensive endocrinology consultation and insulin titration with weekly home visits from nutritionists and nurses to get her diabetes under control quickly. Thereafter, she will receive ongoing long term followup through a regular diabetes management program. Meet Susan! Susan is nine years old and lives with her mother and father in Kenya. She enjoys going to school and wishes to grow up to be a teacher one day. Susan was born with bilateral knee contractures. Bilateral knee contractures are a condition that makes it impossible for Susan to straighten her legs or walk. Without being able to walk, she is unable to get to school each day. Susan’s parents are very grateful that they found our medical partner CURE International. The mother, Salome, says that she found out about this hospital through a pastor and believes it is the best chance her daughter has in fulfilling her dreams of being a teacher. “I want my daughter to walk,” she says. Say hi to Marion, a 22-year-old mother of two from Kenya! Marion is expecting her third child. She and her husband grow corn, beans, potatoes, and sugarcane on a small plot of land. To make extra money, they also pick up odd jobs and work on neighboring farms. Marion is pregnant and currently participating in a maternal and child healthcare training program. She has learned valuable skills, including how to treat water before drinking it and how to prepare nutritious meals with locally grown produce. She has also learned about the benefits of delivering under the care of a medical attendant, rather than at home. She has decided she wants to deliver in a hospital. Marion's hard work earns her enough to feed her children and send them to school, but access to a health care facility to ensure the safe delivery of her baby is a challenge. For $215, we can give Marion access to a health facility with trained staff, reduce the risk of complications, and help her toward a safe and sound delivery.

One-and-a-half-year-old Millsam is his mother’s pride and joy. While he is shy in a crowd, he loves spending time with his mother and grandmother. Millsam’s mother is raising him on her own. Millsam’s left testis hasn’t yet descended, putting him at increased risk of cancer and infertility. Millsam’s mother says, “I love my son so much. I am filled with joy whenever I think of him and I want the best for him. My wish is to see him grow up like other children and be an independent, responsible son and father.” For $1,180, we can fund orchidopexy and herniotomy procedures to lower Millsam’s testicle so that it will develop normally.
