These defects deprive his body of oxygen and leave him sickly and weak. Christian will undergo open-heart surgery to repair these defects. Christian lives in Port-au-Prince with his mother and father; he is their first child. He likes dancing to music and playing with his neighbors.

Clifterson was born with a heart condition called double outlet right ventricle, in which the aorta connects to the heart in a different place than it normally does. This prevents the heart from pumping oxygen-rich blood to his body, leaving him sick and short of breath. If untreated, it would be fatal. Clifterson lives in a rural area of southwest Haiti with his mother who is a farmer. Clifferson's mother says, "I am so happy to know that there is a chance for my child to become healthy!"

Jean has a cardiac condition called ventricular septal defect and pulmonary hypertension. A hole exists between the two lower chambers of his heart; blood leaks through this hole without passing through his lungs to obtain oxygen, leaving him weak and short of breath. Earlier this year, he underwent a procedure called a cardiac catheterization to confirm that his condition can be repaired, and now he is ready to have surgery. Jean lives with his parents and two siblings in a mountain village in northern Haiti; his parents are both farmers. He is in the fourth grade and enjoys going to school. Jean's mother said, "I am very happy that after many years of hoping and praying, Jean can finally have this operation!"

Begaelle is a baby from Haiti. Begaelle lives in Port-au-Prince with her parents and grandparents; she is her parents' first child. She was born with two holes in her heart: a ventricular septal defect, between the two lower chambers, and an atrial septal defect, between the two upper chambers. As a result, blood cannot circulate properly through her body, leaving her sick and short of breath. Begaelle will fly to India to receive treatment. On August 22, she will undergo cardiac surgery. Lucito is a boy from Haiti.
