Farah is 53 years old and a father of eight from Ethiopia. He lives with his family in a refugee camp in Turkana after fleeing instability in search of safety. Despite difficult conditions, he has worked hard to support and care for his family. Last year, Farah fractured his left leg after slipping during heavy rains that flooded the camp. More recently, he was injured again while trying to avoid a motorbike, resulting in a fracture of his right leg. He is now in pain and unable to move freely, leaving him unable to care for his family. Fortunately, on April 17th, surgeons at our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, will perform surgery to repair his fracture. Farah is raising $1,500 to fund the procedure, which will relieve his pain and help him regain mobility. Farah said, “I am unable to walk, and even sitting for long is exhausting. I long to get better and be able to stand and walk again.”

Hawi is a young student from Ethiopia. At 17 years old, this 9th-grade student is at a very important time in her school life. She works hard at her studies while also taking care of her two younger siblings and helping with chores at home. Because she grew up in a hardworking farming family, she knows how important it is to be strong and active. However, a painful bump on her right hand is now making it very difficult for her to get her work done and keep up with her daily tasks. About a year ago, Hawi started feeling pain in her right hand that made simple movements difficult. Since then, the pain has grown much worse, making it nearly impossible for her to move her hand easily. She feels a constant pressure blocking her movement Hawi traveled to our medical partner's care center to receive treatment. On March 19th, surgeons will perform an excisional biopsy to remove the mass. Now, Hawi needs help to raise $750 to fund this procedure. Hawi said, "I look forward to being able to write and do my chores without pain and discomfort."

Sary is A 61-year-old woman from Cambodia. She is a widow and lives with her oldest son. She and her son sell bread to support their family. In her free time, she enjoys watching the news and listening to monks' sermons. About seven years ago, Sary developed a pterygium in her left eye, causing her itchiness, tearing, and blurry vision. Pterygiums are non-cancerous growths of the conjunctiva, a mucous layer that lubricates the eye. The growths occur when the conjunctiva is exposed to excessive sun damage, wind, or dust, and the cells grow abnormally over the pupil. She has difficulty seeing things clearly, recognizing faces, working, and going anywhere outside. Sary learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, and sought treatment. On March 5th, she will undergo a surgical procedure to remove the abnormal conjunctiva from the cornea surface and replace it with a conjunctival graft to prevent recurrence. The total cost of her procedure is $298. This covers medications, supplies, and inpatient care for two days. Sary said, "I hope that after surgery, my eye will stop tearing and feeling irritated, so I will not worry about my eye anymore. I also hope to return to selling bread comfortably and continue my daily work."

Nancy is a three-year-old girl from Kenya. She has undergone multiple procedures across different specialties, including pediatric surgery, obstetrics and gynecology, and orthopedic care. Each surgery was a step toward healing, yet each also took a heavy toll on her young body and spirit. Anxiety and fear make the hospital visits deeply distressing for her. Meanwhile, her father, the sole provider for the family, lost his job following a motorbike accident and has been unable to return to work. The emotional toll on Nancy’s parents has been overwhelming. Her father's greatest wish is simple and heartfelt: he longs to see his daughter healed, free from frequent hospital visits, and able to live a normal childhood filled with play, laughter, and possibility. Following five previous procedures, Nancy now requires a colostomy reversal surgery in order to restore bowel function and prevent future complications. It is the next step in her journey toward healing and normalcy. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is requesting $1,020 to cover the cost of a colostomy closure for Nancy. The surgery is scheduled to take place on February 5th. Once completed, Nancy should be able to live more comfortably and confidently. Nancy’s father shared, "I never imagined my three-year-old would know so much pain. As a father, all I want is for Nancy to get well, stop coming back to the hospital so often, and live a normal, happy life."

Eyobel is a two-year-old boy from Ethiopia. He is very active, loves playing, and is also very sociable. He is a happy child who enjoys being around people, and he especially loves football. His mother is a homemaker, while his father works as a driver to support and care for the family. Eyobel was born with hypospadias, a condition that causes urinary dysfunction. Without treatment, he will continue to experience uncomfortable symptoms and will be at risk of future complications. Fortunately, Eyobel is scheduled to undergo corrective surgery on May 7th at our medical partner's care center, BethanyKids Myungsung Christian Medical Centre. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is requesting $1,293 to cover the cost of his procedure and care. Eyobel’s mother said, “Thanks to God for this opportunity. Thank you to Bethany Kids and everyone who supported us. I am very grateful for the chance to receive this treatment. I hope my baby will be okay during the surgery.”

Chakriya is a 39-year-old man from Takaeo province, Cambodia. He lives with his wife and two children. His oldest child is in kindergarten, and his youngest child is two years old. His wife stays at home to look after the children and manage household tasks. In his free time, he enjoys planting vegetables around his home and listening to music. For the past 14 years, Chakriya has been living with ankylosing spondylitis - a chronic inflammatory arthritis primarily affecting the spine, causing back pain, stiffness, and inflammation, especially the base of the spine and pelvis. Around one year ago, Chakriya began experiencing pain in his right hip, which has caused difficulty walking and limited his ability to perform daily tasks independently. He had previously undergone a total hip arthroplasty on his left hip in 2014 with the help of our medical partner. Children’s Surgical Centre (CSC). Chakriya decided to travel back to CSC for treatment on his right hip. On January 16th, he will undergo a hip replacement procedure, which will cost $1500, including surgery and post-op care. Chakriya and his family can contribute $50, and need support for the remaining cost. Surgeons will operate on his right hip to relieve pain and improve mobility, allowing him to move comfortably and return to work. Chakriya said, "After the surgery, I hope that I will be able to walk easily and no longer have hip pain, so I can do my job properly."

Chen is 47 years old and father of three from Cambodia. He lives in Kandal province with his wife and three children. The oldest child works in construction, his second child is a monk, and his youngest child is a university student. Chen has spent the last several years working as a mechanic, but has not been able to work much since his accident. In his free time, Chen enjoys planting and harvesting fruits and vegetables around his home. Two years ago, Chen was involved in a motorbike accident and fell onto his right shoulder, fracturing his right clavicle. After the accident, Chen was taken to Vietnam, where doctors performed surgery and implanted a plate and screws in his right clavicle to align the bone and heal the fracture. Although the fracture healed, Chen continues to experience pain in his right shoulder. This pain affects his ability to use his arm comfortably and has prevented him from continuing his regular hours at work. Fortunately, surgeons at our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, can help. On January 8th, Chen will undergo a hardware removal procedure that will reduce his pain and improve the function of his right arm, allowing him to use his arm and carry out his daily activities. His family can contribute $25, but needs help to raise $353 more to fund his procedure and care. Chen said, “I hope that I won't have pain, and I want to work to support my family, and I would feel great if I could do my job again."

Recho is a 26-year-old woman from Kenya. She has a long history of epilepsy, diagnosed when she was much younger. Her condition disrupted her education and ability to work despite early academic promise and later vocational training in tailoring. She lives with her single mother and younger siblings, who are deeply supportive and assist her with daily activities and hospital visits. She enjoys helping with household tasks such as washing utensils and clothes, and she often speaks with humor and optimism about her daily life. In December 2025, Recho suffered a seizure while carrying hot tea to her siblings, resulting in serious burns to her chest and hand and a prolonged hospital stay requiring ongoing wound care and a planned skin graft. The extended treatment has placed a heavy financial burden on her family, prompting a request for assistance with medical expenses. Fortunately, on January 7th, Recho will undergo a skin graft procedure with the help of our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare. She needs help to raise $1,183 to fund her procedure and care. Recho says, "I have been in the ward for a long time, and my hope is go home and be with my family members. I miss my sisters and my family."

Makoye is a 15-year-old boy from Tanzania. He is the fifth child in a family of eight. His parents work in cotton farming to sustain their household. Makoye was diagnosed with right genu valgus, which means his legs bow inward at the knee so that the knees touch. Several factors could cause this condition, such as growth disorders, vitamin deficiencies, or excessive fluoride found in contaminated drinking water. As a result, the knees can be angled inwards or outwards, making it difficult to walk and may cause long-term joint damage. Because of the long distance between his home and school, Makoye found it increasingly difficult to attend classes. Over time, he became discouraged and eventually dropped out of school. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is requesting $631 to fund treatment for Makoye. The procedure is scheduled to take place on December 3rd at our medical partner's care center, Kafika House. Treatment should restore Makoye's mobility, allow him to participate in a variety of activities, and greatly decrease his risk of future complications. Makoye says, "I miss going to school with my friends, I hope this treatment will make it possible for me to go back to school and continue studying."

Chorb is 76 years old and a doting grandmother from Cambodia. Five months ago, after her husband passed away, Chorb moved in with her eldest child. She has four other children and enjoys spending time with her grandchildren. For the past four months, Chorb has suffered from hip pain that prevents her from walking. Because of this, she cannot move around freely or visit the pagoda, which was part of her daily routine. She worries about losing her independence and being limited in her activities. Chorb was referred to our medical partner, Children's Surgical Center (CSC), by a friend from her village. On November 11th, Chorb will undergo a hip replacement procedure on her left hip. Her family can contribute $100, but needs help to raise $1,400 more to fund her procedure and care. After surgery, Chorb hopes to regain mobility, to be free from hip pain, and to return to visiting the pagoda independently. Chorb said: “After the surgery, I hope that I will no longer have hip pain, and I can walk on my own."

U Shwe is a 64-year-old man from Burma. He lives with his wife, son, two daughters, and two grandchildren in Mae Sot District, Tak Province, Thailand. He and his wife are retired, and his daughters and grandchildren are students. His son works as a freelance Burmese-Thai translator, and another daughter works at a dormitory, and sends money to support the family when she can. In early February 2025, U Shwe had a pain in two of his teeth. He had tehm extracted, which which seemed to solve the problem. However, when he went for a check-up for his diabetes in May, the medic conducted an oral exam and noticed that white spots that resembled a tumor were found in his gums. He was referred to our medical partner's care center, Mae Sot Hospital, for specialized care. Currently, U Shwe is experiencing severe pain inside and outside his mouth. Due to the pain, he can only eat soup and soft foods, and has difficulty sleeping. Fortunately, our medical partner, Burma Children Medical Fund, can help. On October 6th, U Shwe will undergo a tumor removal surgery. He needs help to raise $1,500 to cover the total cost of his procedure and care. U Shwe said, “I hope that after my surgery I will feel better when eating and sleeping that I can eat and sleep with my family again.”

Channy is a 21-year-old university student from Pursat province, Cambodia. She is the middle child of three siblings. Her older brother sadly passed away two years ago, and her younger brother, age 18, works in a clothing factory. Her father is a security guard, and their mother stays home to manage the household. Channy is in her third year at the Royal University of Phnom Penh, majoring in Khmer literature. In her free time, she enjoys reading books and helping with household chores. When Channy was 14, her parents took her to a clinic because they thought her back looked abnormal and she was in pain after sitting for long periods in school. At that time, she was diagnosed with adolescent idiopathic scoliosis - an abnormal curvature of the spine that appears in late childhood or adolescence - but her parents could not afford any further care for her. These symptoms interfere with her ability to focus on her studies and affect her participation in academic life. Additionally, she has faced discrimination from classmates due to her physical appearance, which has been challenging both emotionally and socially. After a local clinic suggested she visit our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, Channy is scheduled to undergo surgery on August 11th. This surgery will correct her spinal deformity, relieve her pain, and restore her confidence. Channy’s family can contribute $100; they still need help raising $1,400 to cover the full cost, including the surgery, implants, hospitalization, post-operative care, and physiotherapy. Channy said: "After the surgery, I hope that I will no longer have pain so that I can finish my degree. I hope this surgery will improve my back, and I can find a job to help my family."
