Chhunly is a 67-year-old woman from Cambodia. She is married and has two sons, nine grandchildren. She enjoys visiting the pagoda to join ceremonies and reading books about Buddha.
About two years ago, Chhunly developed a pterygium in each eye, which causes her blurred vision, burning, and irritation. It is difficult for her to see things clearly, to do her work, and it makes her uncomfortable.
For $148, Chhunly will undergo pterygium removal in each eye to relieve her of her symptoms. After surgery, she will be able to see clearly again.
Chhunly’s sister-in-law says, “I hope that my sister feels more comfortable again so that I don’t have to worry about her eye problems.”

Chhunly succcessfully received surgery to see clearly again.
Chhunly’s eye pterygium was successfully removed from her left eye and clear vision has been restored. Following the operation, she was given eye drops to reduce inflammation and fight infection. Chhunly went home after the first surgery and has yet to return to have the same operation completed in the other eye. Because returning to the clinic requires taking a day off from work and usually a family escort, she may have had trouble finding a day to come back. Also, because she left with clear vision in one eye, her problems with blurred vision are less of a burden making the second surgery a less immediate priority than the first. The second surgery will be free whenever Chhunly returns.
“I look better and feel comfortable,” she says. “I can do work easily and go anywhere on my own.”
