Ravy lives at home with his five siblings and his parents, who are rice farmers. In his free time, he helps his mother with the housework and enjoys playing football or watching TV. When he was only two years old, Ravy's left hand was burned with hot rice. His parents did not seek treatment due to a lack of money and distance from medical clinics but sought help from local healers. His burns healed but left contracture scars that over time have thickened and tightened, preventing movement of his fingers. He had a procedure when he was five, but the contractures remain. Ravy traveled two and a half hours to our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, where surgeons plan to release the contractures, repair his burned fingers, and replace the skin with a skin graft. The treatment will include surgery, medications, and several days in the hospital. Ravy needs help to pay for this $454 treatment. Ravy shared, "I hope after the surgery, my left hand gets better, with no pain. I want my hand to work as normal so I can find a better job to help my family."

Sister Gloria is a Catholic nun with a degree in transformative education and faith. She works as a secretary in the office of her church training center. Sr Gloria shared that she was orphaned and now works to care for her brothers and sisters who lack support, providing them with counseling when they have family issues. Since 2019, Sr Gloria has been experiencing lower abdominal pains and recently began experiencing more severe pains in March. She was diagnosed with multiple uterine myomas and fibroids. Sr Gloria needs to undergo a hysterectomy, a procedure in which surgeons will remove her uterus. Fortunately, our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare (AMH), can help Sr Gloria finally heal. On April 5th, she will undergo surgery at AMH’s care center. Once recovered, Sr Gloria will be able to resume her daily activities free of pain. AMH is requesting $319 to fund this procedure. Sr Gloria shared, “I am worried about the future outcome of my condition if not treated on time. I feel uncomfortable. I hope to resume my duties as a secretary as soon as I recover completely.”

Jane is a loving mother from the Philippines. She has an adorable 8-month-old baby boy. Jane works as as a municipal administrative aide, while her husband works as a contractual college teacher. However, even with their combined salaries, they still cannot afford to cover her medical treatment. In 2019, Jane began to experience troubling symptoms, including a painful, palpable mass on her neck. She was diagnosed with a nodular goiter, which is a solid or fluid-filled lump that forms within the thyroid. However, due to financial constraints, she opted to take the doctor’s prescribed medicine to alleviate the symptoms instead of having the surgery she needs. Fortunately, our medical partner, World Surgical Foundation Philippines, is helping Jane finally undergo treatment. She is scheduled for a thyroidectomy on May 3rd at Our Lady of Peace Hospital. Surgeons will remove all or part of her thyroid gland. This procedure will cost $1323, and she and her family need help raising money for this life-changing care. “Once this surgery is done, I won’t have to endure this pain. Thank you World Surgical Foundation Philippines and Watsi for this opportunity to be treated. Now, we don't have to worry about where to get the money for my treatment,” Jane shared with relief.
