Vibol is a 19-year-old man from Cambodia, the oldest of his 4 siblings in his family. Currently, he is studying to learn how to repair motos. In his free time he enjoys playing football, watching TV, and listening to music.
“Seven months ago, Vibol got in an accident,” reports our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre (CSC). “He fell off a tractor and the machine cut his leg and foot. He also fractured the navicular bone of his left foot, and parts of that bone became infected.” The infection has gotten worse and there is much damaged, infected tissue in the area. This causes Vibol pain and makes it difficult for him to go to school or help at home.
To ensure the wound heals properly, Vibol has traveled to CSC to get treatment. Doctors will perform a debridement operation, carefully removing any of the damaged or infected tissue to improve the healing of the healthy tissue in the area.
$99 in Watsi funding will cover the cost of the surgery, post-operative care, and his hospital stay. “After the damaged and infected tissue is removed, Vibol’s ankle will be able to heal more rapidly,” explains CSC. “He will soon be able to walk without pain and return home to his moto repair studies.”
Vibol is looking forward to putting his injury behind him. “I hope I can walk soon so I can go back to studying. I will continue my studies once I am healed and I hope that I can help do some housework,” he shares.
