Meet Resty, a 62-year-old mother of four. Resty and her husband work as retired farmers in an area 60 kilometers from the nearest care center in Uganda. Resty finds her joy in meeting with other women in the community especially when they come over to her home to pray together.
Four years ago, Resty was carrying a bunch of bananas in her garden when she slid and twisted her foot in a galley. Since then, she has sustained multiple injuries to her ankle joint, including a fracture-dislocation of the ankle joint. This particular joint is vital for maintaining stability and mobility.
At the time, Resty went to a local hospital where she received medical attention for a temporary ankle reduction. However, over time, her ankle joint has not properly aligned, and as it attempted to heal, the bone structures have remained abnormally positioned. She has now developed arthritis with progressive pain.
With an osteotomy and an ankle fusion operation, Resty’s ankle joint can be corrected and the bones straightened. $534 covers surgical costs, muscle relaxant and pain medications, physiotherapy, and bed rest to allow Resty complete recovery.
Resty shares with Watsi’s medical partner, The Kellermann Foundation, “I pray that God richly blesses you for your support of me.” After the surgery, she hopes to continue praying with the other women in the community as well as farming with her husband.
