Im is a mother of three daughters and now many grandchildren. Im lives with her youngest daughter who is a farmer. She likes to listen to the news and the monks pray on the radio.
One year ago, Im developed a cataract in her right eye, causing her photophobia, blurry vision, and tearing. She has difficulty seeing things clearly, including colors and faces, and is worried about falling when walking, so is not able to go places on her own.
When Im learned about our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre, she traveled for five and a half hours seeking treatment. On February 22nd, doctors will perform a phacoemulsification cataract surgery and an intraocular lens implant in her right eye. After recovery, she will be able to see clearly. Now, she needs help to fund this $229 procedure.
Im says, “I do hope that after surgery I can see well enough to help my daughter at the rice field.”

Im underwent sight-restoring eye surgery.
Im traveled many hours to seek treatment for her cataract and was so relieved that all went smoothly. After spending the night in the hospital, her bandage was removed and her vision had already improved. She’ll rest at home for several days and she is hopeful her life will improve because she enjoys taking care of the grandchildren and helping her daughter with housework. These tasks have been difficult with her failing eyesight.
Im’s daughter said: “We are very grateful my mother’s vision will be better and she can be more independent. We don’t want to worry about her when she goes places, and she is looking forward to visiting the local pagoda often. Thank you to the generous people who support CSC people like my mother so they can have better eyesight.”
