Srorn is a 63-year-old rice farmer from Takeo province, Cambodia. She has three daughters, two sons, and eleven grandchildren. She lives with her husband, who is also a rice farmer, and her youngest daughter, who works in a nearby garment factory. In her free time, she likes listening to Buddhist radio and spending time with her grandchildren.
About three years ago, Srorn developed a cataract in her right eye, causing her itchiness, tearing, and blurry vision. A cataract is a clouding of the lens of the eye, so it is like looking through a frosty or fogged-up window. She has difficulty seeing things clearly, including colors and faces, and is worried about falling when walking, so she is not able to go places on her own.
When Srorn learned about our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre, she traveled for three hours seeking treatment. On October 6th, doctors will perform a phacoemulsification cataract surgery and an intraocular lens implant in her right eye. After recovery, she will be able to see clearly. Srorn can afford to contribute $13 to her care, but needs help to raise $250 more to cover the cost of her procedure.
Srorn said, “I hope after surgery I can see more clearly so I can go back to growing rice and taking care of my family.”
