Sandar is a 35-year-old woman who was born with Down syndrome. She lived in Burma until recently moving to Thailand. She likes to look at pictures in books and would like to learn how to read.
In summer 2017, Sandar’s mother noticed that she seemed to have difficulty seeing. Over time, her eyesight worsened. She now needs to use a wheelchair because she is unable to see.
Our medical partner, Burma Children Medical Fund, is requesting $1,500 to fund lens replacement surgery for Sandar. On March 6, doctors will perform a lens replacement, during which they will remove Sandar’s natural lenses and replace them with an intraocular lens implant in each eye. After recovery, she will be able to see clearly. Now, she needs help to fund this $1,500 procedure.
“If after surgery she can see well, I would like to send her to a school,” said Sandar’s sister.
