Meet Teav, a 42-year-old woman from Cambodia. Teav is married with four sons, two daughters, and one grandchild, and sells smoked fish at the market. Teav enjoys visiting the pagoda to join in ceremonies. She traveled one hour with her son to reach our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre (CSC).
Teav developed a cataract in each eye five months ago. This causes her blurred vision. She can’t see clearly, do her work well, or get around easily on her own.
Teav’s doctors told her she was in need of a phacoemulsification and an intraocular lens implant in each eye, which will replace her internal lenses and restore her vision to full clarity. In total, the procedure, supplies, drugs, and three days of inpatient care will cost $225. Teav’s family needs financial assistance to complete payment.
Teav’s vision will be fully restored after recovery from the surgery. Let’s help her get her sight back!

Teav had the cataract in her right eye successfully removed in a brief surgery, during which her clouded lens was taken out and replaced with a clear, artificial implant. The procedure went very well and her vision is already much clearer than it was before. With her restored sight, Teav can return to selling smoked fish and visiting the local pagoda without difficulty or pain.
Though she was scheduled to have cataracts removed from both eyes, she has not yet returned to have the second operation.
For a number of reasons it can often take some patients extra time to return for follow-up care. Frequently, patients life far away or do not have the family escort required for them to have the surgery, preventing them from coming back to the clinic. When Teav can return, her next cataract removal surgery will also be free.
