21-year-old Phat lives in Cambodia with her parents, sister, and brother. When not working as a farmer, Phat enjoys watching TV at home and cooking food for her parents.
When Phat was eight years old, she received a snakebite on her left foot. The bite caused a Volkmann contracture, which is a deformity caused by injury to the muscles. The deformity turned into clubfoot, a condition when the foot is twisted out of shape or position. It is difficult for her to walk and she is currently in pain.
Phat traveled with her mom for five hours to reach Watsi’s medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre (CSC) for treatment. For $304, surgeons at CSC will perform a clubfoot correction surgery and use a frame to straighten her foot. Once she heals, Phat will have regular physiotherapy at CSC until she can walk easily.

Phat was successfully treated for her clubfoot.
21-year-old Phat received a snakebite on her left foot when she was eight years old. The bite caused a Volkmann contracture which eventually led to clubfoot - a condition when the foot is twisted out of shape or position - making it very difficult to walk.
After a few rounds of casting treatment, Phat is already doing very well! She is showing tremendous improvement after the clubfoot correction surgery. She has been doing physiotherapy since her surgery and can now walk without pain and do things on her own. As she continues in her treatment process, she is expected to be able to walk normally and wear shoes.
“I am happy to see my daughter walk properly again,” says Phat’s mother. “Thanks for the help.”
