Milkesa is a 23-year-old man from Ethiopia. His dreams of a bright future are on hold, due to persistent pain and limited mobility in his right femur. For a construction laborer who must be on-site every day, this condition is a constant source of fear, as he worries about job loss and permanent disability. His greatest hope is to find treatment that will restore his function and allow him to reclaim his life.
One year ago, Milkesa began experiencing pus discharge from his right distal femur, along with a tingling sensation and pain above the knee. Doctors diagnosed Milkesa with osteomyelitis and recommended that he undergo a sequestrectomy, a surgical procedure involving the removal of fragments of infected dead bone or tissue. If not treated, Milkesa’s condition can lead to recurrent infections that may result in life-threatening complications.
Fortunately, on August 8th, Milkesa will undergo repair surgery at our medical partner, Saglan Wajee General Hospital. His family is raising $900 to fund Milkesa’s operation. Once completed, this procedure will alleviate his symptoms and prevent serious long-term complications.
“My biggest fear is losing my job. All I want is to get the treatment that will let me live my life again,” said Milkesa.
