Ana has had a healthy pregnancy.

Ana is now 37 weeks along in her pregnancy. She is scheduled to undergo a C-section in only a few weeks. She feels great, and she is grateful to the hospital for all of her lab work and prenatal consultations. Our medical partner’s team is closely monitoring her case to make sure that she does not develop any worrisome symptoms. She is looking forward to meeting the newest member of her family!

“I feel calm and protected because of the great medical care I have gotten,” she says. “If I were alone, I would not be able to pay for all these labs or the costs of travel to the hospital from my village. Thank you.”

Ana lives in Guatemala with her husband and two children, who are 12 and seven. They live in a one-room adobe house, and she is 16-19 weeks pregnant. She is indigenous Maya Quiche, which means she speaks little Spanish, and going to the hospital where nobody speaks her language can be intimidating.

Ana’s husband is a bus driver, and she embroideries traditional Mayan blouses with flowers, leaves, and small animals. Although she and her husband are excited to have another child, they are concerned about being able to afford transportation to the hospital from their rural village, medications, and labs she needs.

Ana was previously funded for diabetes care in 2014. Due to her diabetes condition and a large fibroid in her uterus, she needs extra prenatal care to ensure the safety of her and her baby. Although she didn’t need insulin before getting pregnant, she needs it now. She also needs regular consults with an obstetrician, and a cesarian birth to make sure her or her baby do not suffer any life-threatening complications.

For $281, Ana will receive treatment for preeclampsia. She will also receive transportation, interpretation, and advocacy services as she goes to the hospital for her prenatal care. All labs and medications will be provided, and our partner’s team will work with her to create a custom birth plan so she can quickly and safely arrive at the hospital to give birth when the time comes.

This treatment not only will save her life, but will give her the chance to bring a new life into the world!

Jocelyn

Jocelyn is a loving mother of four from Philippines. She works as a bookkeeper, and her husband works as a part-time sidecar driver while also looking after their children. Despite their hard work, their combined income is just enough for the family's daily needs. Three years ago, Jocelyn began to experience troubling symptoms, including episodes of epigastric pain. Worried about their finances, she chose to defer her checkup. Unfortunately, the symptoms worsened as she began to experience difficulty of breathing, and persistent vomiting. She was brought to the nearest hospital to be given emergency care. The doctor told her to have an abdominal ultrasound. The test showed that she was suffering from gallstones, which can no longer be treated with medicines. Jocelyn has been advised to undergo a cholecystectomy, the surgical removal of the gallbladder. If left untreated, her symptoms will continue to worsen and put him at risk for further health complications in the future. After seeking treatment through our medical partner, World Surgical Foundation Philippines (WSFP), Jocelyn is scheduled to undergo a cholecystectomy on February 17th. A portion of the cost of the procedure is being supported by the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation, and WSFP is raising the remaining $1,128 to cover the cost of Jocelyn's surgery and care. Jocelyn shared, "I'd like to thank WATSI and World Surgical Foundation Philippines for sponsoring my surgery. May you continue helping people who are financially incapable of paying for their surgeries. You are an answered prayer!"
