Maya is a baby girl from Nepal. One day, while Maya’s mother was out working on the family’s farm, Maya fell when walking down the stairs in her home.
Maya’s fall resulted in a fracture in her right femur (thighbone). She is in pain and has intensive swelling around her right hip. Our medical partner, Possible, shares, “she has been crying ever since the accident and is not able to move her right leg, sit down, or sleep properly.”
Maya lives with her mom, dad, and her nine-year-old brother. As the family is only able to produce crops enough for three months from their small farm, her father works in India as a manual laborer. Since the injury, Maya’s mom has been unable to leave her daughter’s side, making working on the farm impossible.
$224 will fund the treatment to fix her fracture. The treatment includes x-rays, surgery and follow-up visits to ensure that her femur heals properly. Her recovery is expected to be extensive, but she will be able to crawl and walk again with time. “She will no longer be crying or be in pain,” explains Possible.
Maya’s father was concerned that his daughter’s fracture would result in a life-long disability or deformity, but the doctor assured him that was not the case.
Maya’s father shares: “This has been a huge relief to my family. I can’t wait to take her back home.”
