Jhunriel is a three-year-old boy from the Philippines. An only child, he lives with his mother, Roxanne, in the city. His grandmothers help to look after them, supplying food from their farms. Jhunriel loves to have his friends come over to play. He wants to be a policeman when he grows up, protecting his family and neighbors.
When Jhunriel was eight months old, his mother noticed a mass on his right thigh. As he got older, it continued to enlarge, making walking and urinating difficult. His mother was very worried. She tried to take Jhunriel to a number of different doctors for consultation, but was unable to afford the fees.
“My son’s condition has brought hardship to us for so long already. We tried our best to support the needs for his treatment, but each time we were not able to pursue it, for our finances were not enough,” Jhunriel’s mother says. “We are asking for your kindness to help my son and me in these desperate times. Thank you so much in advance and I am praying that he will be treated to spare him for further complications.”
Jhunriel was brought to our medical partner’s care center, Zamboanga Del Norte Medical Center, where he was diagnosed with liposarcoma, a fatty tissue tumor. Our medical partner, International Care Ministries, is requesting $708 to cover the cost of tumor excision. He is scheduled for surgery on May 19. After treatment, Jhunriel will be able to grow and develop normally.
