Sokleang is seven years old. He has one younger brother, who is four years old, and they live with their parents, who work as rubber collectors in Kampong Cham province, Cambodia. Sokleang is in grade three, and his favorite subject is the Khmer language. At home, he enjoys eating rice with pork, and in his free time, he likes playing with his friends in the village.
Around two months ago, Sokleang began experiencing ear pain and ringing in his ears after water entered his ears. His mother took him to a local clinic for treatment, and even though they spent money on pharmacy medications, his condition did not improve. Now, he is in pain and finds it hard to hear clearly, especially at school.
Sokleang and his mother traveled for six hours via mini-bus to our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre, for treatment. He has been diagnosed with otitis media and fluid in his ear, and a bilateral myringotomy is planned. Sokleang is scheduled to undergo surgery with grommet insertion on November 26th. A tiny incision will be created in his eardrums to allow fluid to drain from the middle ear, and small tubes will be placed in his ears to drain the fluid and help restore normal hearing. Sokleang’s family can contribute $75 and needs your help to raise $109 more, which will cover the total cost of his procedure and care. Once recovered, Sokleang will be free of pain and able to hear normally again.
Sokleang’s mother shared: “I hope that after the operation, Sokleang will be able to communicate with others, listen well in school, and have no more pain.”
