Samnang is a kindergartener from Takeo province, Cambodia. She lives in a multi-generational home with her parents, grandparents, and two aunts. Her father works in a garment factory, and her mom sells homemade Khmer cakes from a street cart in front of the factory complex. Samnang’s favorite activities at school are art, especially painting, and she loves practicing writing the Khmer alphabet. She hopes to be a teacher when she grows up. At home, she likes drawing and watching cartoons on her mom’s phone.
For the past five months, Samnang has been experiencing a feeling of fullness in her ears, difficulty breathing, and snoring at night. Frequent illness causes her to miss school. Samnang was recently diagnosed with enlarged tonsils and adenoids, which, if not treated, will cause her symptoms to persist and possibly intensify over time.
Our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre, is requesting $345 to fund a tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy for Samnang, which is scheduled to take place on June 9th. Surgeons will remove her tonsils and adenoids, hopefully relieving Samnang of her symptoms and helping her live much more comfortably.
Samnang’s mom shared, “I hope my daughter can feel healthy and not miss so many days at school.”
