Huot is a 45-year-old grocery seller from Cambodia. He lives in Battambang province with his wife and two children. Both Huot and his wife work at a grocery stall in the market to support the family. In his free time, Huot likes to rest at home or exercise in the park near his house.
Around twenty years ago, Huot had an ear infection. This infection caused the tympanic membrane, or the eardrum, in his left ear to perforate. For this reason, Huot experiences hearing loss, tinnitus, and ear discharge. It is difficult for him to communicate clearly with others, and it affects his daily work as a merchant.
Fortunately, our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre, can help. On October 15th, he will undergo a myringoplasty procedure in his left ear. During this procedure, surgeons will close the perforation. Huot can contribute $75, but needs help to raise $288 more to fund his procedure and care.
Hout said: “After the surgery,I hope that I will be able to hear more clearly and have no discharge to worry about.”

After a five-hour journey from his province, Hout underwent myringoplasty surgery at the Children’s Surgical Centre (CSC). He spent the night in the hospital and was discharged with medicated ear drops, which he needs to use for two weeks as he heals. This surgery has significantly improved Hout’s life by restoring hearing in his left ear. Once he fully recovers, he will be able to hear more clearly and communicate effectively with his family and customers, free from ear discharge and pain. This improvement also reduces the risk of future infections. It allows him to participate more fully in daily activities, enhancing both his professional and personal quality of life—an aspect he has struggled with for the past twenty years.
Hout said, “I feel much better now. I can hear more clearly and no longer worry about my ear. I am very thankful to the doctors and CSC for helping me.”
