Ummey lives in Kampong Chhnang with her parents, two younger siblings, and grandparents. Her father works as a butcher, her mother works in a garment factory, and her grandparents sell meat at the market. Ummey is in 6th grade and enjoys all of her classes. In her free time, she loves reading and spending time with her siblings.
Ummey was born with cerebral palsy (CP), a condition that affects her mobility. She has difficulty extending her legs and walks with a limp. She has been receiving treatment at her local hospital, and began physical therapy at the age of two, which continued until she was ten. Currently, Ummey still uses crutches to walk and relies on a wheelchair for long distances. She also has foot inversion, limited movement in her hips, and tightness in her knees, and her Achilles tendons are tight, with limited ankle joint movement.
Fortunately, surgeons at our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre, can help. On February 17th, Ummey will undergo a Bilateral Distal Femoral Osteotomy +/- Anterior Hip Flexor Release procedure, and she needs your help to raise $469 for this surgery. This procedure includes realigning the femur bones to improve her ability to straighten her legs and release the tight hip flexor muscles, which will help her achieve better movement, reduce pain, and improve her overall mobility.
Ummey’s mother shared, “I hope my daughter can walk more easily and she will feel more comfortable as she grows up.”
