Choem is a 66-year-old retired rice farmer who needs cataract surgery to restore the vision in his left eye. He is married and has one daughter, five sons, and 15 grandchildren. One of his favorite ways to spend his time is going to the pagoda with his wife and joining the ceremonies.
One year ago, Choem developed a cataract in his left eye, causing him to experience light sensitivity, eye tearing, and blurry vision. He has difficulty seeing things clearly, including colors and faces, and is worried about falling when out walking on his own.
When Choem learned about our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre, he traveled there hoping for treatment. On July 7th, doctors will perform a small incision cataract surgery and an intraocular lens implant in his left eye. After recovery, he will be able to see clearly. Now, he needs help to fund this $253 procedure.
Choem says, “I hope my eye can see clearly again so I can recognize my family’s faces and have more independence when I am out.”

Choem underwent cataract surgery so he can see clearly and see his family again.
Choem shared that he was sad spending his days inside due to light sensitivity from his cataract, which also meant he could not participate in his favorite activities. However, after undergoing successful eye surgery, Choem reported that his vision improved dramatically after a few days, and he was able to recognize the faces of his family and venture outside in the sun! He looks forward to being able to do the things he enjoys again, like walking his grandchildren to school and visiting the local pagoda.
Choem’s wife said, “My husband is so much happier with better vision. He will be able to take walks with me and go places by himself. Thank you to the donors and hospital staff who have made his life better.”
