Seav Y is a lovely three-year-old girl from Cambodia. She lives with her mother, grandmother, and two older sisters in Prey Veng province, near the border with Vietnam. Her mother works in a garment factory, while her grandmother stays home and takes care of the children. Seav Y enjoys playing pretend shop with her sisters, and loves Cambodian soup with rice.
Seav Y was born with polydactyly of her right hand. This means that she has an extra thumb. It is difficult for her to use her hand properly, even for tasks like feeding herself, because she cannot control or move the extra thumb.
Fortunately, on December 12th, surgeons will perform a polydactyly repair procedure to remove the extra digit. Seav Y’s family is able to raise $100 towards the treatment, but need support to raise an additional $199 to fund this procedure. After surgery, she will feel more comfortable and will be able to use her hand more easily when she starts school.
Seav Y’s mother says: “I hope that Seav Y will have an easier time using her hand after the surgery, and that it will also make her hand look better. I want her to be able to start school without worrying about what the other kids might say.”
