Yarith is a five-year-old boy who lives in Kampong Cham province with his parents and older brother. His mother manages the household, while his father and brother work as rice farmers. Yarith is in kindergarten, where he enjoys learning Khmer and mathematics. He likes to eat rice with fried pork, and he loves playing with his friends in the village.
Yarith was born with a condition known as right torticollis where muscles on the right side of his neck are tight, resulting in his head tilting toward that side and making it difficult for him to turn his head fully. As he grows, this tightness leads to discomfort and limits his ability to engage in activities, such as playing with friends and feeling confident around others.
Fortunately, our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre, can help. On November 1st, Yarith will undergo a bipolar release of the sternocleidomastoid (SCM) muscle procedure, which will help alleviate the tightness in his neck and improve his ability to turn his head. However, Yarith’s parents can afford only $100 of the total cost for this procedure and need assistance with the remaining $472. This amount will cover the costs associated with the surgery, including post-operative care, medication, and rehabilitation.
Yarith’s mother said, “I hope he will be comfortable and able to move his neck well like other children after his operation.”
