Chem is a thoughtful 8-year-old boy who pays attention to the world around him and constantly looks for opportunities to be a part of it. Chem wants to be a doctor one day, and he says his favorite color is the dark orange of monk robes.
Chem’s life has not been without its challenges. He was born with clubfoot, an abnormal alignment of his foot that makes it difficult to walk and creates pressure in areas that later become sore and infected. Chem has already had a toe amputated due to infection.
Chem comes from a part of Cambodia where the average person makes less than $2 a day. He is the oldest of three kids, and his parents cannot afford to pay for the $300 surgery he needs to realign his foot. Doctors at Children’s Surgical Centre are confident that with treatment, Chem will be able to walk much more normally and avoid further infections. We hope to cover the cost of his medical care and enable him to live a normal life.
