Sony is a 19-year-old from Cambodia and the oldest of four siblings. Previously, he and his mother worked in Malaysia. On February 17, 2025, Sony was in a motor vehicle accident causing a fracture to his right shoulder. Since the accident, he has been living with his youngest sister and grandmother in Kampong Cham province. In his free time, Sony enjoys watching soccer on his phone and checking his social media.
Soon after the accident, Sony went to a traditional healer to treat the injury. However, he still experiences pain and limited movement in his right shoulder, preventing him from working. The injury has caused weakened muscles, and he is unable to raise his arm.
Fortunately, surgeons at our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre, can help. On March 10th, Sony will undergo an open reduction procedure to treat his right shoulder dislocation and fracture. This procedure will help realign his shoulder, restore movement, and alleviate pain, improving his ability to return to daily activities. Sony and his family are able to contribute $100 towards the cost of his treatment and need help raising $385 more to fund the operation and his post-op care, including physical therapy.
Sony says: “I am looking forward to this surgery, as it will help me move forward with my life and work.”
