Baraing is a 15-year-old student who also works part-time at a local hotel. His younger brother attends the same school as him, and his mother works on the housekeeping staff at the hotel where he works. Baraing shared that his father passed away several years ago, so he and his mother both work to support their schooling. Baraing’s favorite subjects are math and physics, and he wants to be a policeman when he is older. In his free time, Baraing enjoys reading books, exercising, playing football, listening to music, and helping his mother with housework.
Last month, Baraing was in a motorbike accident that caused a fracture to his left leg. His left proximal femur is broken, and his leg is swollen and painful. As a result, it is difficult for him to walk and he is in chronic pain.
Fortunately, surgeons at our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre (CSC), can help Baraing receive treatment to heal. On July 1st, he will undergo a procedure to repair his femur and allow him to walk again. CSC is requesting $483 to cover the cost of this surgery. Baraing’s family was able to gather $100 to contribute to his care.
Baraing said, “I hope that my leg will be repaired quickly and I can return to work to help support our family.”

Baraing underwent fracture repair surgery so he can walk again.
Baraing and his mother traveled two hours to our medical partner Children’s Surgical Centre where orthopedic surgeons placed an orthopedic nail to stabilize his fractured femur. Baraing received antibiotics to clear out infection and has worked with the physiotherapy team to learn proper exercises. Baraing will soon be free of a wheelchair and will be able to walk on his own. This will allow Baraing to return to school and work part-time to support his family.
Baraing’s mother shared, “I am very happy that the hospital staff was able to fix his leg so that he can walk again. We were so worried he would have a limp or not be able to be active and play sports. Baraing is more positive about his future and happy to go to school. We are grateful to the staff at the hospital and the people we haven’t met who gave money so he could have this operation. Thank you!”
