Sorn is married with two sons, one daughter, and seven grandchildren. She enjoys visiting the pagoda near her home in Cambodia to listen to the monks pray and to join in ceremonies.
Sorn developed a cataract in each eye 4 months ago and traveled three hours with her son-in-law seeking treatment. Sorn’s cataracts cause her blurred vision, burning, pain, and light sensitivity. Sorn can’t do work well or go outside on her own because of the cataracts; they’ve greatly limited her independence.
With $225, Sorn will have a surgical procedure to remove the clouded cataract lenses from her eyes and replaced with artificial clear lenses. After this procedure, Sorn will be able to see clearly again and will no longer experience the discomfort or sensitivity to light.

Sorn underwent vision-restoring cataract surgery.
Sorn had the cataract in her right eye removed in a short surgery, during which her clouded lens was taken out and replaced with a clear, aritificial implant. The procedure went very well, and she is already seeing everything clearer than before. Sorn is very happy that her vision has been restored and she looks forward to getting back to work and caring for her seven grandchildren.
Although she was scheduled to have cataracts removed from both eyes, she has yet to return to receive the second surgery.
For any number of reasons, it can take patients some time to return for follow-up care. Patients often live far away or have important family matters arise that keep them from coming back to the clinic. When Sorn can return, her second surgery will be free.
