Chhay is a housewife from Cambodia. She is a widow. She lives with her sister. She likes to listen to monks pray on the radio.
Five months ago, Chhay developed a cataract in each eye, causing her blurred vision and headaches. She has difficulty seeing things clearly, recognizing faces, and going anywhere outside.
When Chhay learned about our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre, she traveled for three hours seeking treatment. On February 6, doctors will perform a phacoemulsification surgery and an intraocular lens implant in each eye. After recovery, she will be able to see clearly. Now, she needs help to fund this $398 procedure.
She says, “I hope I can help my sister to do housework and go to the pagoda easily.”

Chhay underwent cataract surgery.
Chhay has returned home after a successful operation. As per her doctor’s instructions, she had one eye done, and will need to return in a few weeks to have surgery on the other eye. Surgery will allow her to work and go about her daily life with improved vision. Her doctor looks forward to seeing her again in a couple weeks.
Her sister says, “I am very happy that she’s looking well again so she can to do her work or go to places alone.”
