Yon is a 62-year-old rice farmer with three sons, three daughters, and many grandchildren. She lives with her daughter who is a farmer. Since her husband passed away 2 years ago, she has had to hold the family together and make sure the farm continues to run smoothly. When she is not helping with the family farm, she likes to listen to monks pray on the radio, and visit with her neighbors.
Two years ago, Yon developed a cataract in her right eye, causing her tearing, and blurry vision. It is difficult for her to walk in bright or low light, and she is afraid she will fall due to her poor vision.
When Yon learned about our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre, she traveled for three and a half hours seeking treatment. On January 5th, doctors will perform a phacoemulsification cataract surgery and an intraocular lens implant in her right eye. After recovery, she will be able to see clearly. Now, she needs help to fund this $229 procedure.
“I hope after surgery my eye can see clearly. I want to be able to manage by myself outside in the bright light, take care of my grandchildren, and see my relatives better,” Yon shared.
