Chheng is a 57-year-old pepper farmer from Cambodia. She has five sons, four daughters, and ten grandchildren. She lives with her husband and two of her grandchildren. Her husband is a fisherman. She shared that she takes care of her grandchildren most of the time, and works when she can. In her free time she likes to talk with friends on her phone.
Three years ago, Chheng developed a cataract in her right eye, causing her blurry vision, tearing, and mild pain. She has difficulty seeing things clearly, recognizing faces, and going anywhere outside.
When Chheng learned about our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre, she traveled for three-and-a-half hours seeking treatment. On October 5th, doctors will perform a phacoemulsification cataract surgery and an intraocular lens implant in her right eye. After recovery, she will be able to see clearly. Now, she needs help to fund this $229 procedure.
Chheng said, “I hope that after my eye is better I will see well enough to work more often, so that I can help support my grandchildren with more money.”
