“I hope my daughter will have a successful surgery so she can see, and I won’t have to worry about her becoming blind,” shares the mother of Vantha, a three-year-old girl living in Cambodia.
Vantha was born with glaucoma in her left eye. According to our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre (CSC), this condition makes it hard for Vantha to see clearly and causes her “blurred vision, burning, tearing, and pressure in her eye.”
The recommended treatment for Vantha is a trabeculectomy, which is a surgical procedure that relieves intraocular pressure. After this pressure is relieved, CSC is confident that Vantha’s vision will begin to improve and will not bother her once she starts school.
For $300, Vantha will receive the surgery that she needs to recover her eyesight and continue to do the things she loves, like playing ball with her older brother. “I want her to go to school and study like the other kids,” Vantha’s mother adds.
