Last January, Maung Win Oo sustained serious burns on his lower body when his clothes caught fire. His fingers were burned as well when he panicked and tried to use his hands to put out the fire.
Maung Win Oo’s mother rushed him to a local health care worker immediately after the accident, where he received initial treatment. But months later, Maung Win Oo’s knees are fused by scar tissue at 90 degree angles, and his fingers are disfigured, making it impossible for him to walk or grasp objects properly.
Maung Win Oo’s father constantly worries about his son’s future, and says his greatest wish is for him to get better. As a farmer who sells rice, charcoal, and firewood to supplement his income, however, he doesn’t have the disposable income to pay for the $2000 surgery his son needs. Funds raised on Watsi will cover the cost of Maung Win Oo’s care.
