Thoy is a 23-year-old from Cambodia who comes from a family of rural farmers. As a child, village healers gave Thoy injections in his legs in an attempt to treat recurring fevers. The injections caused muscle weakness that have now resulted in Thoy’s leg being so stiff he can’t bend it.
This has made Thoy’s everyday life very difficult. Without basic mobility, Thoy has trouble with even the most basic tasks. His condition is treatable, but he can’t afford the necessary medical care on his own.
For $300, we can fund a quadriplasty, a surgery designed to release the muscles in Thoy’s leg. With this surgery and subsequent physiotherapy, Thoy should regain his mobility and be able to live a more comfortable life.
