Andrew is a 13-year-old boy from Uganda. He currently attends sixth grade, and his favorite subject in school is science. He hopes to become a nurse or doctor someday so that he can help other people. When he is feeling well, Andrew loves playing soccer, where he excels at midfield defense and as a striker.
Recently, Andrew became sick with a complicated and possibly cerebral case of malaria. His parents, small farmers named Celess and Ustina, took him to our medical partner’s care center, Bwindi Community Hospital, for treatment.
On January 10, Andrew will begin receiving treatment for malaria. Although Andrew’s parents have contributed $4, they cannot pay for the full treatment. Their budget is already stretched thin from paying tuition for eight of their nine children. Our medical partner, the Kellermann Foundation, is requesting $120, which will pay for Andrew’s medications, a blood transfusion, and four nights in the hospital.
“I give thanks to the donors for their help,” says Andrew’s mother, “and wish them a long life.”
