Merisa is a 28-year-old woman from Malawi. She owns and operates a small cosmetics business in her community, where she lives with her sister and her 9-month-old baby boy.
In December, Merisa began to experience severe abdominal pain. Her aches were so intense that she found it difficult to work. Upon seeing a doctor, it was discovered that she has fibroids, benign but painful growths in her uterus.
Our medical partner, World Altering Medicine, is requesting $541 to cover the cost of Marisa’s myomectomy—the surgical removal of these fibroids. She is scheduled to receive treatment at our medical partner’s care center, Nkhoma Hospital, on March 23. After surgery, Merisa is expected to be pain-free and able to enjoy time with her son.
