Sokly is a 53-year-old man from Cambodia, who works as a caterer for weddings. He is married with two sons, two daughters, and four grandchildren. Sokly enjoys talking with his neighbors and listening to news on the radio.
Sokly developed a cataract, or clouding of the lens of the eye, in each eye one year ago. This causes him to have blurred vision. He can no longer see everything clearly, do work well, or go outside on his own.
Sokly traveled 3 hours to seek treatment from our medical partner Children’s Surgical Center (CSC). For $225, CSC can provide Sokly with small incision cataract surgery (SIC), which includes an intraocular lens (IOL) implant.
After this brief and highly effective procedure, Sokly will be able to see clearly again.

Sokly received vision-restoring surgery.
After a year of blurred vision, irritation, and tearing due to mature cataracts in each eye, Sokly has successfully undergone surgery to remove his cataracts and restore his vision.
During the short procedure, doctors removed his clouded lenses and replaced them with clear, artificial implants. He can now see everything clearly again and is expected to make a full recovery.
With his restored vision, Sokly can return to his old life of catering weddings and conversing with the people in his community. “I feel happy that I can see everything clearly now so I can continue my work easily,” he said. “Thank you for helping me have my surgery.”
